It’s time again to recognize excellence in all areas of direct marketing. Each year, as part of KCDMA’s AMBIT Awards, we honor two professionals who stand out in our field and in the Kansas City community: the Direct Marketer of the Year and the Young Direct Marketer of the Year.

Started over 30 years ago, the Bob Stone Direct Marketer of the Year award is presented to someone in the KCDMA community who exemplifies innovation, ethics in marketing, and selfless contribution to the club and the data-driven marketing community. There are a long line of past recipients who make a veritable Who’s Who of names in marketing that have only added to the prestige of the award.

Nominations for this year’s awards are now open. So, what makes a great candidate the Direct Marketer of the Year award? Here are a few ways to get you thinking about who you might nominate for the award:

An educator, author or speaker on data-driven marketing topics

One of the criteria that make a great candidate is contribution to the furthering of direct marketing and education around direct marketing tactics. Authors, speakers and “faces of the industry” make great candidates to honor. These professionals also tend to bring distinction to not only themselves but to the Kansas City marketing scene.

A long-time or heavily involved member of the KCDMA

One of the best characteristics of so many of our past recipients is the time and loyalty and support they’ve given the Kansas City Direct Marketing Association. It takes a lot of volunteers to run a successful association and past board members, committee members and frequent hand-raiser volunteers clearly believe in the group.

It’s important to note, however, that the DMer of the Year cannot be a current board member. (Young DMer of the Year nominees can be an active board member.)

Someone who inspires you with their passion for direct marketing

One of the key ingredients to any great DMer of the Year nomination is a clear passion that the candidate has for the industry and our community. Who inspires you? Who keeps you thinking of how to “one-up” your last campaign with your next one? Who embodies ethics in direct marketing and truly adheres to the DMA’s Code of Ethics?

Have someone in mind yet? When you’re ready to nominate, download the DMer of the Year nomination template letter here, and tell us more about your candidate and why they should be this year’s honoree. DEADLINE EXTENDED! Nominations are due by January 23, 2015.
