Director, Audience Development

Overview

J Schmid & Associates, a leader in direct marketing for more than 25 years, is seeking an experienced Director to lead and support audience development efforts.

Job Summary

Responsible for designing and implementing successful consumer-direct and business-to-business marketing efforts for multiple J Schmid clients. The Director plays a key role in developing client strategy while playing a hands-on role in seeing it effectively executed. Responsibilities include development and execution of circulation and contact strategies, data analytics and database marketing for offline and online direct response initiatives.

Major Responsibilities

  • Develop marketing strategy in a collaborative environment
  • Work in a hands-on fashion to develop and execute acquisition and retention marketing programs
  • Lead development and execution of client direct mail, catalog, email retention and acquisition efforts
  • Effectively present marketing recommendations to clients
  • Implement data-driven testing and measurement methods to drive continual improvement of client campaigns
  • Conduct financial feasibility analysis for individual marketing campaigns as well as overall company or product development
  • Take a hands-on approach in assessing campaign effectiveness
  • Work with list and client-data sources to develop contact strategies
  • Work directly with clients to understand, quantify, segment, append, cleanse or update client data
  • Negotiate and manage acquisition of external lists
  • Manage and coordinate J Schmid and client vendors as required to support agency and client campaigns
  • Coordinate with account teams and print manager to execute campaigns
  • Support overall client service and client management needs
  • Support new business development efforts as needed

Major Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years successful circulation and contact planning with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role
  • Prior catalog marketing experience is required
  • Traditional direct mail and online marketing experience is highly preferred
  • Must be able to demonstrate exemplary analytic skills
  • Exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail capabilities
  • Excellent verbal and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize heavy workload in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Able to effectively write recommendations and analysis summaries
  • Able to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Able to work in a service-oriented environment
  • Direct agency experience preferred
  • Ability to do some client-related travel (up to 25%)
